As usual for discrete-time models, the time axis is divided in fixed-length time intervals, referred to as slots, and packet transmissions can start and end at slot boundaries only [5,13]. Packets entering the queueing system cannot leave the buffer at the end of their arrival slot: their system time must include at least one whole time slot.
