That’s what I loved most about going to high school—I could be myself. I had friends, best friends, and boyfriends. I went to the mall, went to the beach, and went bowling. I ice-skated, skied, played mini-golf, took hikes. I went to proms and fell in love. I learned a lot about life in high school. And one of the things I learned was that not all knowledge comes from books. Life has much to give, too. Part of living life was deciding whether to go to college or not. I was a solid honors B+ student—not the best grades for college.

Her role in Pretty Baby had a huge impact on how preteens were seen in film. In the 70s, girls were cast as tough tomboys, like Jodie Foster (Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver) or Tatum O’Neal (The Bad News Bears) when they were kids. In the 80s, a sexual revolution occurred that allowed girls to be seen as feminine and sexy. When this change took place, my success was directly affected. The 80s allowed the fantasy of the young teen to be possible. Along with this allure, came the look—strong eyebrows.
